Aims of the course
This course aims to introduce students to an original way of working with millinery materials to create a pod inspired headpiece Straw and silk are sculpted to create a piece that’s both witty to look at and flattering to wear.
What each student should achieve
Each student will complete one piece of work and gain understanding of the techniques which have many inspiring possibilities. Discovering how to make the piece flattering and wearable is an exciting and important part of the process.
Materials and techniques covered
Hand rolling, stiffening and wiring to shape the pieces.
Using silks to make rich colours and textures to cover beads.
Teaching method
The tutor will demonstrate each stage and then give individual tuition as the ideas develop. The students will be encouraged to try on their pieces as they evolve.
